Physio Too Expensive?
Aug 5, 2010 |
Recent television coverage suggests so....
You may have seen the TV 1 news items this week outlining the story that patients are missing out on physio. It’s because the government changed the funding for ACC physio. This means there is a co payment required of around $20 and people are disinclined to pay and therefore are not attending.
I challenge you to recall when you last spent $20 – you’ve got 30 seconds!
I have been asking our patients that lately. The response is usually that they can’t remember – it’s an amount that doesn’t compute to a significant spend.
Or if they do recall it’s interesting to analyse what the $20 spent achieved. Most of them have spent it on food or drink items – and usually the non essential types! The pizza take out or the bottle of wine. Or it might be a movie ticket and popcorn.
And that’s fair enough! It’s what makes you feel good. But don’t forget that we, at Active Physio, are in the feel good business too.
Pizza, wine and entertainment are pretty much what the good life is about these days. But there is very little joy in those indulgences if your body is compromised by pain, inactivity and on the road to chronic injury and disease.
Given the Kiwi belief in the ACC birthright maybe we need to change our thinking to more personal responsibility for our health and well being rather than relying on the government. As Dr Smith, the Minister for ACC, said on TV 1, the model was not sustainable. Change was inevitable.
So, the belief that the $20 is BEST spent on feel good items with short term benefits is the same philosophy as how our Kiwi lost it’s wings…… It’s your choice and one which you only will live with.
But at Active Physio we can make you feel good too with LONG term benefits. See our services and check the specials – we are here to ensure that your investment in yourself has the value of adding the feel good factor to your life in a real way that sustains you to enjoy it…..money well spent I say!
